AllMusic Review by

The fifth of 15 double LPs from French CBS that document Ellington's long period in the '30s on Columbia's labels has many fine recordings that often elude reissue. Among the highpoints are collaborations with guest vocalists like The Mills Brothers, Ethel Waters and Adelaide Hall, a couple versions apiece of two medleys from The Blackbirds of 1928 and the original recordings of "Sophisticated Lady" and "Drop Me Off at Harlem."
