Esquire's second album, Coming Home, sounds like Yes or Ultravox at its best, prettiest moments; at its worst, it sounds like Europe. However, the album is still a notable improvement over their self-titled debut: Nikki Squire's strong, beautiful voice is confident, sincere and wise, and sounds just a bit like Natalie Cole. Esquire's somewhat mystical sound is matched by equally dramatic lyrics about forbidden lovers and hearts wisened with time, which can either complement the music or push it over the top, depending on your point of view.
