Canova's only full-length LP, reissued on CD in 1998, is an amazing musical document, not only for its quality but the range of styles that she embraces. One suspects that this must have been what her Las Vegas shows were like, covering a wide range of songs and styles. With guitar virtuoso Speedy West and master fiddler Harold Hensley in her backing band, she plays it straight, doing credible versions of "Wabash Cannon Ball," "Wabash Blues," "Just Because," "The Butcher's Boy" and "Ain't Gonna Grieve No More," but she also does a superb job with the torch song "I Don't Know Why (I Just Do)" and the lullaby "Go to Sleep Little Baby." Canova proves equally adept at the boisterous and the sultry, and the sound is quite fine, well separated stereo that gives good detail to the playing without compromising on the singer's presence.
