San Francisco has more than a completely respectable dreampop/beautiful noise scene. After two singles (all five songs rerecorded here plus eight new ones), this quartet's first LP, produced extremely well (sharp and really clear!) by the ubiquitous Kevin Army, mixes straight ahead, balls-out, no-nonsense pop with that quintesential punkish (but not punk) drive. The production and band energy make this an instant winner, especially the down-and-fdirty "GTO" (terrific song), though sometimes singer Tom Barnes' strong voice seems a tad to countryish in his delivery for this material. But that's only sometimes. Great start!
