MCA Special Products' Classic George is a budget-line collection of highlights from his latter-day recordings for MCA. His stint at the label was uneven, to say the least, but there were some good songs on each record. Some of those made it to Classic George, along with such era-defining hits as "I Don't Need Your Rockin' Chair" and "High-Tech Redneck" (like 'em or not, the "I ain't-old-yet" defiance of "Rockin' Chair" and the forced novelty of "Redneck" pretty much sum up George at MCA), but if you're looking for a real summary of his time with the label, the full-priced, full-fledged alternative George Jones Collection (which was released a mere two and a half months before Classic George) is a better bet. This isn't Classic George, no matter what the title may say. This is just a budget-line sampler. It's not bad according to those terms, but it isn't something fans need to seek out, either.
