Distributed in Europe, Classic Cameo is much like the U.S.-released Definitive Collection, since it relies far too much on Cameo's mid-'80s material to be considered definitive or even representative. Those who only know -- and only care about -- the era of the group that spawned electro-funk hits like "Word Up!," "Single Life," "She's Strange," and "Candy" will be left satisfied, but the disc does a great disservice to the catalog of one of funk's greatest and most prolific groups. Going by the presentation here, a newcomer would be led to believe that the biggest hits are at the beginning of the disc because they are the only noteworthy songs made by the group, and that the remainder is present only to fill out the disc. That's very wrong. Seek 2005's Gold for a much more accurate and justifiably extensive look.
