BMG Special Products' Classic '60s Soul, Vol. 1 is a fairly entertaining sampler of familiar hits and cult singles from the decade. Although the song selection appears random, the ten-track compilation does have a number of good moments, such as Aretha Franklin's "Respect," Wilson Pickett's "In the Midnight Hour," the Friends of Distinction's "Going in Circles," James & Bobby Purify's "Let Love Come Between Us," Otis Redding's "Try a Little Tenderness," Tyrone Davis' "Is It Something That You Got" and the Masqueraders' "I Ain't Got to Love Nobody Else." There's no reason why these were chosen for this compilation, but the end result is a reasonably enjoyable listen.
