AllMusic Review by

Since Fania has gone deep into its classic salsa well many times, issuing compilations or, in the case of an artist such as Héctor Lavoe, reissuing his entire solo catalog, it only makes sense that other labels with deep Latin rosters look to their own catalogs to re-release recordings that were equally important to the development of the music. This four-disc set by Willie Colón is a case in point. One of the problems with evaluating such a tremendous artist is that his early recordings were so influential, we sometimes forget that, as an artist, he continued to develop and innovate for decades, as demonstrated by the dates included herein. Included are 1990's Color Americano, 1991's stone classic Honra y Cultura, 1993's Hecho en Puerto Rico, and 1995's reunion with Rubén Blades on the dark and fiery Tras la Tormenta, which is a high-water mark in both artists' catalogs. Given the budget price tag and the sheer quality of these recordings, no salsa fan should be without them.
