The follow-up to 2013's White Night, the eponymous sophomore outing (and first U.S. release) from the Beijing, China-based neo-psychedelic rockers Chui Wan (the band's name is derived from from Daoist philosopher Zhuangzi's Qi Wu Lun, a mystical tome concerning the relationship between nature and human life) offers up a knotty, angular blend of experimental pop, post-punk, no wave, and Os Mutantes-inspired psych-rock mayhem that invokes names like White Light/White Heat-era Velvet Underground, Tame Impala, No Age, and Temples. The release of the album, issued via Chinese label Maybe Mars, also coincides with the group's first American tour.
