In 2001, Philippine female singer Aiza released ChristmaSing With Aiza. Aiza was a former child movie and television star who lost her popularity as she grew up. However, she returned to the spotlight with the release of her debut 2001 album, Pagdating Ng Panahon (When the Time Comes), which spawned a huge hit in the title song, and was a massive seller. Her talent and renewed popularity is more than enough to warrant the release of ChristmaSing With Aiza. She has a subtle, charismatic voice, and sings these Christmas songs with sincerity and respect. The opening, "Pasko Na Sinta Ko" (It's Christmas Time My Love), is a warm, tender song that deserves the earnestness that Aiza imparts. Aiza's handling of the traditional "O Holy Night" is once again quietly elegant and reverent. She also performs a medley of well-known Christmas songs, which includes the "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," "The Christmas Song," and the Jackson 5's "Give Love on Christmas Day." Her understated, warm handling of these songs is endearing. She sings "Give Love on Christmas Day" twice, the first time at a very slow pace, and the second time with more spirit. The backing harmonies on all songs throughout the album are nicely done, and the musicianship, including the acoustic guitar, is excellent. The album also contains versions of the songs without the vocals, so that listeners can sing the words backed by the instrumentation, similar to what occurs in karaoke singing, a very popular pastime in the Philippines. One looks forward to Aiza's next album.
