Although he launched his music and TV careers at the same time, Christian Kane found much more success as an actor, which makes this EP -- released more than a decade after his first TV role -- seem like an attempt to rekindle flames that have long since blown out. Kane covers all his country bases here, from Southern rock to honky tonk to swooning ballads, and he sings the songs with a heavy Texas twang. The results aren’t exactly offensive, but they’re far from moving, and Kane seems more than content to stay within the boundaries of contemporary country. He’s playing to the genre’s rules, happy to give his listeners more of what they’re already heard. That’s understandable -- this is his first solo release, after all, and he wants to fit in -- but it makes for a rather bland EP, since Kane’s ability to sound like his influences doesn’t say much about his ability to make moving music.
