The U.K. music industry mastered the cool compilation many years ago, and Warner Music's 2014 set Chilled Summer continues the tradition, sticking with its theme while jumping genres and all by way of a track list that goes from Happy Mondays to Haim. Indie, EDM, pop, and dance help paint the summery and smooth scene, with an assist from the chillout/Blue Room sounds of yesteryear, represented by stoned synth nuggets from the Beloved ("The Sun Rising"), the Art of Noise ("Robinson Crusoe"), and Air ("Sexy Boy"). Many songs mix genres via their remix, such as modern indie electro crew Clean Bandit going retro disco on the Magician's redo of "Rather Be," while cash-poor singers Sam Smith ("Money on My Mind") and Aloe Blacc ("I Need a Dollar") become club-rich thanks to producers Le Youth and Tensnake, respectively. "Excellent taste" points are awarded for including a fringe cut from Gil Scott-Heron with Jamie XX, and it perfectly fits with the lazy sway of it all which, in turn, is perfectly suited for summer afternoons.
