It's not the first time traditional Indian artists have been given the clubbed-up remix treatment (just check out bhangra, or Talvin Singh's productions) but Chill Out Bombay is a solid collection of sweeping chants tied to heavier beats and atmospheric textures. Joi applies the Asian breakbeat treatment to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan with mostly unembarassing results, while Don Shiva, Nitin Sawhney, and Sheila Chandra bridge the gap themselves with good tracks. The melange of Bombay and beats occasionally drifts into a dreary worldbeat soup, but Chill Out Bombay accomplishes the task of the title quite well.
