This Tax LP consists of lesser-known recordings from four separate groups based in Chicago during the early part of the swing era. Earl Hines's big band is featured on four of their more obscure sides (including a version of the pianist's theme "Deep Forest") and there are performances from Reuben "River" Reeves's River Boys (the trumpeter's final session), pianist Charles Lavere (his band includes clarinetist Joe Marsala, altoist Boyce Brown and drummer Zutty Singleton) and Richard M. Jones (who sticks to vocalizing). Although not essential, these rarities should interest collectors of the period.
