AllMusic Review by

This valuable program of piano solos by the underrated classic jazz pianist Don Ewell (who was 40 in 1957) was first released in 1984 as a Stomp Off LP. Privately recorded for fans who wanted examples of his playing, Ewell explored tunes associated with Fats Waller and Jelly Roll Morton plus a few favorite standards and his own "Frisco Rider." Although the sound quality is not perfect, the music (highlighted by "Everybody Loves My Baby," "Handful of Keys," "Sunday," "Just You, Just Me" and "The Pearls") is quite wonderful and easily compensates for the minor imperfections.
