Brad Laner, the man behind Amnesia, was also the guitarist for Medicine. Medicine's syrupy, fuzzy melodies unfortunately seemed to fizzle out as their career progressed. Favorably, Laner's new Amnesia concoction is a fusion of pop-noise brilliance. Like Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine, Brad Laner plays his guitar too loud, washing out his monotone vocals with twangy static and feedback. While it would be easy for Laner to get carried away with his own noisy eccentricity, he never does. Brad pushes Amnesia to full pop potential, creating a flowing burst of sound that hints at T. Rex and Big Star. If you thought shoegazing was only for glassy-eyed Englishmen, then give Amnesia a listen, because Brad's shoes have a shine that's hard to pull away from.
