Stephen Philips and Isomorph's Cave of the Wind is a very, very special and excellent recording. For those of you who aren't familiar with the work of Stephen Philips and his Dark Duck Records label, you should be, but if you aren't, you should check out his excellent collaboration with gifted sound artist Isomorph. Stephen Philips and Isomorph's Cave of the Wind features the duo making a very deep and resonant variety of drone or pure ambient music. The recording features a variety of ambient textures and timbres, as well as field recordings provided by Isomorph. The aesthetic of this recording is one, overall, of contemplation or meditation and Cave of the Wind breathes deeply with organic life. This work, in a lot of ways, reminds one of some of Stephen Philips' other work, including the three discs in his Cycles series, as well as the excellently produced and critically successful Desert Landscapes, which rates as a classic among many of the aficionados of ambient music. Stephen Philips and Isomorph's Cave of the Wind clocks in at just under 68 minutes, and it's a single-movement long form environmental piece. This recording is perfect for an immersion experience and would be great for meditation, background sound, or just some unique atmospherics in the back or foreground.
