While he's best-remembered for his three-year stint as the lead singer for Oakland, CA's longtime R&B legends Tower of Power, Lenny Williams had an interesting solo career before and after his stay with the band, earning a reputation as a polished but powerful vocalist who could convincingly approach both ballads and up-tempo dancefloor-fillers. Cause I Love You: The Best of Lenny Williams is an 18-song compilation that features highlights from Williams' post-Tower of Power recordings for ABC and MCA; memorable tunes include "Shoo Doo Fu Fu Ooh!," "People Make the World Go Round," "Midnight Girl," and a fine cover of the Five Stairsteps' "O-o-h Child." If not startlingly original, Cause I Love You: The Best of Lenny Williams is a fine set of solid, professional R&B from a singer who invariably made the most of his material; it's a nice overview for fans and a good introduction for the curious.
