British cornetist Rod Mason toured West Germany in 1977 and liked it so well that he settled there. This exciting LP finds the trad cornetist sounding inspired with a fine group of British players on heated versions of such songs as "High Society," "You're Driving Me Crazy," the 1920s version of "You Made Me Love You," and "Basin Street Blues." Mason often emulates 1920s Louis Armstrong in his playing and 1950s Armstrong in his occasional vocals. Other key soloists include trombonist Roger Marks and Pete Allen on clarinet and alto. Dixieland fans will want to search for this excellent effort.
