Carrier stands as a strictly instrumental Rhythm and Sound record, reveling purely in the realm of dub techno. The serene lack of discipline towards the oft-anchoring need for syncopated rhythm can be seen as most likely the leading reason why this record -- and many of the other amazing records in this series -- have become so revered. The basslines and looped waves of tweaked static also radiate a sense of raw beauty that Pole's dub excursions can never match: A resulting aura of sheer disorientating aural hallucination mesmerizes the listener with the lulling grace of a most accomplished hypnotist. In sum, this is beautiful music. But even more than mere beauty, this record opens the door even further into the yet to be explored realm of dub, a door into a long-closed realm that may be the future path of tranquil techno.
