There is something undeniably liberating merely about the very idea of the Village People, let alone the group's amazing crossover success and appeal. If you've never seen a straight dad at a wedding leading a conga line around the dance floor to the group's international hit "YMCA," you're truly missing something. Whether one was attracted to their campy style as a true-believing insider or to their sheer novelty as a fun loving outsider (remember this is pre-Bronski Beat, Pet Shop Boys, Boy George etc.), it was hard to resist the group's appeal.
The film CAN'T STOP THE MUSIC is a fun romp a la HARD DAY'S NIGHT that traces the Village People's rise to fame. The macho, hyper-dynamic vocal deliveries by this vocal group bring smiles to the faces of even those who otherwise might bemoan disco. Featuring full, analog orchestrations, party-like chant-along choruses, and track contributions from the Ritchie Family and David Landon, this CD is part nostalgia trip and part party starter.
