AllMusic Review by

Man's Ruin is a label best known for putting out good, cranked-up rock & roll, and this split CD is no exception. The first half, "This is Rock & Roll," is provided by the Candy Snatchers, who put in a hyperenergetic, freaked-out collection of speed-punk. Their title track perfectly fits in with their oeuvre. The flipside, "Sinister," by the Cheap Dates, is similar is style, but not nearly as fun. A dirtier, more distorted sound is employed, fuzzed-out and distorted to the point where the music seems an unlikely shotgun marriage of rock -- the stoner clan wedded to the clan of punk. While "Wrecked" is the best song offered by the Cheap Dates, it hardly seems a match for most of the tracks -- and track titles -- recorded by the Candy Snatchers. One really can't go wrong with song names like "Ass Casserole" and "House of Skag." Good for fans of Man's Ruin usual output and early Hellacopters albums, or just anybody who loves the crank rock.
