Every volume of BMG Special Products' multi-disc Candlelight Moments series is designed to provide background music for romantic, intimate evening. All sorts of music could be used for such occasions, and there are a variety of different styles in the series, with each being grouped under specific headings, such as Soft Voices. This particular volume contains ten folk, jazz and new acoustic tracks. Unlike the rest of the series, which is primarily instrumental, this has nothing but vocal tracks, yet it is similar in tone to the other discs in the series -- so much so that it's hard to treat it as anything other than part of a piece, nearly interchangeable with its companion. Still, the similarity of the Candlelight Moments discs is a blessing for fans of clean, atmospheric, self-consciously sophisticated contemporary music, since they'll know that they'll be getting exactly what they want from any of the installments of the series. Among the highlights on Soft Voices are cuts by John Gorka, Leo Kottke, Etta James, Jennifer Warners, Tuck & Patti, Eliza Gilkyson and Kate & Anna McGarrigle.
