The Gloria installment of the Canciones del Alma collection centers on that theme. It presents 11 tracks, each performed by vocalist Nicodemo Cervantes with the help of a backing band and supporting female singers. Though the message will shine through to speakers of any language, there's nothing here that's particularly satisfying or electrifying musically. Cervantes has a pleasing voice, but he never seems to move out an established range. The arrangements rely too much on keyboards and synths, and despite the upbeat first half (including a particularly raucous live medley of "Hosanna/En Tu Presencia Hay Regocijo"), Cancionces del Alma: Gloria soon bogs down in its own sameness. Of the second half's slower material, "Jesús Dulce Es Tu Nombre" is the standout. But in the end, even its earnest melody and meaning can't save the album from its blasé arc.
