AllMusic Review by

Buoyed by the versatile, smoky, and smooth vocals of Heather Hodson, Schwannoma's funky jazz rhythms are showcased on Cancer of the Groove. Beats move easily from polka to acid rock, then back to swing and ska, in a completely seamless stream. The rhythm section of Steve Goldstein, David Smith, Eric Christ, and Colonel Wochensky wields suggestive groove lines, laid thickly and heavily, while the accompanying ensemble (made up of influences and members from the Steam Donkeys, the Insomniacs and local Buffalo band Leon and the Forklifts) belt out high energy sax, trombone, and trumpet flourishes. With a production team that includes Marc Hunt (Goo Goo Dolls, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy) and Rodney Mills (Pearl Jam), Cancer of the Groove channels another path down the rock & roll road.
