The soundtrack for the sixth season of Showtime's award-winning, David Duchovny-starring dramedy Californication continues the series' penchant for pairing its wry, hedonistic story lines with appropriately offbeat musical offerings. The season finds Duchovny's character, lothario writer/struggling family man Hank Moody, penning a musical with coke-fueled rocker Atticus Fetch, played by Tim Minchin, who (in character) provides the 14-song collection with the soaring stadium rocker "So Long (As We Are Together)." Marilyn Manson, who also makes a season-six appearance, offers up a sinister rendition of Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus," while solid catalog cuts from the likes of Warren Zevon ("For My Next Trick, I'll Need a Volunteer"), Joe Walsh ("Funk 50"), Mark Lanegan ("Strange Religion"), and Johnny Thunders ("You Can't Put Your Arms Around a Memory"), along with a gritty rendering of David Bowie's "Suffragette City" from ex-Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones and a surprisingly tender acoustic take on Iron Maiden's "Wasted Years" by Ryan Adams, round out another solid set of tunes from the consistently entertaining cable program.
