AllMusic Review by

Included are two traditional forms from North Vietnam. Ca Tru is a rather delicate women's art-music form based on codified modes, rhythms, and ornamentations and accompanied by various combinations of lute, zither, flute, and percussion. The equally beguiling but notably more robust quan ho songs, a form for young men and women, also has a traditional repertory but is often improvised. In this recording, made in Hanoi in 1976, they are backed by wind and stringed instruments but without percussion. (46:47)
