AllMusic Review by

This Origin LP features some of the more obscure territory jazz bands of the 1920s. There are titles from Frank Bunch's Fuzzy Wuzzies, John Williams's Synco Jazzers (which has the debut of pianist Mary Lou Williams), the primitive Blackbirds of Paradise (their "Tishomingo Blues" has a hilariously erratic cornet solo), Syd Valentine's Patent Leather Kids, two numbers from the very good St. Louis-trumpeter Dewey Jackson, Eddie & Sugar Lou's Hotel Tyler Orchestra, Zack Whyte's Chocolate Beau Brummels and a classic of its kind, Alex Jackson's Plantation Orchestra's rendition of "Jackass Blues." 1920s collectors will want this hard-to-find set.
