The cover of Buzz Caner displays a pile of blank tapes, obviously denoting the mine of unreleased material by Tom Jenkinson. More indebted to acid and trance than the fusion wash displayed by his Warp material, the 12 tracks included are amateurish, occasionally inventive, acid explorations which often sound similar to the rarer items in Aphex Twin's back catalogue. The angry-man vocoder vocals on "Generation Shit" are perhaps the tackiest moment, though the very next track, "Dreaded Pestilence," is inspired and inventive. For the legion of Squarepusher fans who are trainspotters as well, Buzz Caner is a must-buy, though the sound is leagues away from most of his recordings.
