Russkiy Rozmer is one of the very first techno/electronica artists to gather any attention outside of their home country of Russia. Blending female vocals, rapping, house music, and the occasional pop track, this group blends traditional Russian melodies with varying music styles to an interesting result. The affair is not entirely successful; in fact, most of the tracks that feature vocalists are fairly weak compared to the rest of the album. But several songs have the driving, hard beats of European house music that really enhance their sound. The group gets too cheesy for their own good at times, blending in elements that weaken the music and make it less listenable. In a weird way, it is like listening to them playing catch-up while unintentionally adding their own unique vision to the genre. But anyone looking to hear how Russian house music sounds should give this a listen, as it is quite an interesting twist on a genre that is old hat to most English speaking countries.
