Simply put, when it comes to compilations made by "classic" artists, Madacy usually spares all expense and gets right down to the budget nitty-gritty. They did that here, too. That said, if you already know the material by Buddy Holly and don't need extensive liner notes or complete recordings, and just need something that sounds half decent and has more than a simple helping, this may just be for you because it not only contains all the hits, but it's a truly representative slice from Holly's short career. It's not the complete recordings or anything, but it is more than enough -- if there can be such a thing -- by one of the most enigmatic rockers who ever slung a guitar and got up on a stage. There are 30 cuts on three CDs. The rub is that most of them are so short, they would have fit easily on two. Nonetheless, the price is attractive, it sounds decent, and the music is, well, great: it's Buddy Holly so of course it rocks!
