The title tells it like it is: Broke Down: Blues About Automobiles contains 14 songs about cars. From the stripped-down acoustic sound of Billy Bizor and Tommy Lee Thompson to the big city blues of Texas Pete Mayne and Clarence Green to the rock-influenced sounds of Johnny Winter and Steven Owens, the songs cover a wide range of blues styles. The songs that really stand out are Jerry McCain with a message to young girls with "Stay out of Those Automobiles," Peppermint Harris' last wish for a "Cadillac Funeral," and Willie Love's "Little Car Blues," which really isn't about cars at all. The wide range of blues styles can be a bit off-putting, and purists will absolutely hate about a third of this record, but the casual fan will find this to be a fun record.
