BPM Presents: That Club Mix Review

by John Bush

BPM and djmixed.com assembled this greatest-hits-of-dance compilation, which ranges across a number of subgenres to come up with a pretty good look at the state of electronic dance circa 2002. The best tracks lead off, with "Romeo" by Basement Jaxx and "La La Land" by Green Velvet providing a fine one-two punch. From there, That Club Mix spans the British mainstream of house and trance with good tracks from Kosheen ("Hide U"), Ferry Corsten ("Punk"), Tall Paul ("Precious Heart"), and Timo Maas ("To Get Down") -- but not always the best or most popular from each. One highlight away from the pop charts comes with "The Compass" by tough-as-nails techno head Dave Clarke.
