Madacy's Born to Be Wild, Vol. 1 is a strange collection of tracks from the late '60s and early '70s. Some of them live up to the title and the cover shot of a snarling leopard and a big motorcycle. Edgar Winter's "Free Ride," Mountain's "Mississippi Queen," Argent's "Hold Your Head Up," and Electric Flag's "Groovin' Is Easy" fit the bill pretty well. Some of the songs like the Byrds' "Turn Turn Turn (To Everything There Is a Season)," Mott the Hoople's "All the Young Dudes," and David Essex's "Rock On" don't. Add to the confusion the fact that there are only ten tracks and a few of them are not the original versions (despite what the cover says) and you are left with a collection that comes up short.
