Boredomville may be a place, but Montreal’s Tears From the Sky make it impossible to be there while listening to their new album. On BOREDOMVILLE II, the nimble quartet seamlessly blends classic power-metal leads and brutal charcoal-blackened vocals to create something that exists on an underpopulated piece of metal real estate. “Good Mourning (sic) Forgiveness” gallops forward with the swagger of Maiden augmented with modern brawn, and the title track is the kind of full-throttle epic that too few bands are making right now. By keeping an ear towards the past while racing headlong into today, BOREDOMVILLE II satisfies.
