Pianist Earl Hines loved to play medleys and there are three included on this LP, but they vary in quality. The Showboat and West Side Story medleys have their moments even if the fusing together of "Manhattan" and "Slaughter on Tenth Avenue" does not work as well. The program also includes the umpteenth version of Hines's 1939 hit "Boogie Woogie on St. Louis Blues." This material, unreleased until 1982, does not add much to the legacy of Earl Hines but his fans will find enough magic in this music to justify its purchase.
