Boogaloo Joe Review

by Richie Unterberger

Jones changed personnel slightly on this date, retaining Rusty Bryant (sax) and Bernard Purdie (drums) from his previous outing (Right On Brother), and putting Charles Earland on the organ and Jimmy Lewis on Fender bass. It offers more dependable grooves in the same mold, though, mixing originals and covers of tunes by Duke Ellington, the Supremes, and the Everly Brothers ("Let It Be Me"). The album's been combined with its 1969 predecessor, Right On Brother, on the Legends of Jazz CD reissue.
