Shanachie's Blues for a Barbecue features, as pointed out on the sleeve, "hot party blues." It's questionable whether tracks like "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer" by John Lee Hooker, "Honky Tonk" by Bill Doggett & the Bluesiana All-Stars, or "Ho-Di-Ko-Di-Ya-La-Ma-La" by Anders Osborne have any direct connection with a BBQ cookout, but its clear that Shanachie's attempt at a themed blues sampler is a bit of a stretch and misses the mark. The fact is, Blues for a Barbecue is a full-priced sampler with only ten songs! With the market flooded by umpteen blues compilations with great material at bargain prices, skip this one.
