On October 6, 1944, pianist Jess Stacy (along with bassist Bob Casey and drummer George Wettling) recorded extensively in the studio for the World Broadcasting Systems, making transcriptions to be played on the radio. This Jazzology LP has literally all of the music performed that day: 11 different songs with ten issued versions, three unissued renditions, four incomplete performances and seven false starts. Although not quite essential (certainly not the false starts!), collectors will find the step-by-step recreation of the session to be quite intriguing, for Jess Stacy was a strong improviser. The final versions of the standards (only "Jumpin' with Jess" and "Blue Notion" are originals) are near-classic, with the pianist heard in prime form.
