The Universal Special Products compilation Blowin' the Blues does a fair job of introducing ten of the best-known harmonica wizards of the 20th century, with considerable space given to the masters of Chicago blues: Sonny Boy Williamson, James Cotton, Little Walter, Howlin' Wolf, and Junior Wells. Also included are legendary cuts by Slim Harpo ("Baby, Scratch My Back"), Lazy Lester ("I Hear You Knockin'"), and John Mayall ("Room to Move"). Taking into consideration the extremely low price attached to this set, Blowin' the Blues is a decent first purchase for anyone just finding out about this timeless form of American music.
