AllMusic Review by

This pairing of 1977's Rattus Norvegicus and the following year's Black & White was part of EMI's "Double Original" series in 2003. Both albums had been remastered and reissued separately just a couple years prior, but this presents them in one package that goes for the price of a single disc. From a strictly value-conscious standpoint, this is obviously a thrifty way to get two of the Stranglers' earliest albums, but those who value good packaging will want to buy the two albums separately. And since there are several compilations that cover a broader range of the group's career, this hardly works as a good introduction. In addition to featuring some of the Stranglers' most-known material ("Grip," "Hanging Around," "Peaches," "Nice 'n' Sleazy"), each disc has a number of bonus tracks, including "Go Buddy Go" and their Doors-like cover of "Walk on By."
