This double LP (put out by Muse in 1984) documents a Charlie Parker tribute night held at the Five Spot Cafe on Aug. 12, 1957. Altoist Phil Woods heads a sextet (with baritonist Cecil Pasyne, Frank Socolow on alto and tenor, pianist Duke Jordan, bassist Wendell Marshall and drummer Art Taylor) that plays seven lengthy renditions of Charlie Parker compositions (including two versions of "Scrapple from the Apple"). Nothing all that memorable occurs but the performances (which fit very well into the mainstream bop of the period) are spirited and have plenty of fine solos from the three saxophonists. Thus far this music has only appeared on CD in piecemeal fashion.
