Billboard Hot R&B Hits 1986 Review

by Heather Phares

Billboard Hot R&B Hits: 1986 presents the year's most popular contemporary R&B singles, including Billy Ocean's "There'll Be Sad Songs (To Make You Cry)," Gregory Abbott's "Shake You Down," and El DeBarge's "Who's Johnny." Nu Shooz' "I Can't Wait" and Timex Social Club's "Rumors" are two of the other standouts from this collection, which also features tracks from Freddie Jackson, Ready for the World, Rene & Angela, and Meli'sa Morgan. The quality of these collections varies with the quality of the year's singles, and unfortunately 1986 wasn't the most memorable year for R&B, but diehard fans of the style will probably find a lot to appreciate here anyway.
