To some, not all of the songs on MCA Special Products' Biggest Summer Hits will make sense, since they don't really sound or feel like the summer. (For me, Barry McGuire's "Eve of Destruction" falls into this category.) That's because all the featured songs were hits in the summer -- not necessarily hits about summer. That makes quite a bit of difference, actually, since it results in a (slightly) more cohesive listen. Nevertheless, the disc is still a bit all over the place, as it features the Mamas & the Papas ("I Saw Her Again Last Night"), Brenda Lee ("I'm Sorry"), Grass Roots ("Sooner or Later"), Tommy Roe ("Sweet Pea"), the Shirelles ("I Met Him on a Sunday"), Jerry Keller ("Here Comes Summer"), First Class ("Beach Baby"), Floaters ("Float On") and the Okaysions ("Girl Watcher"). Fortunately, that lineup is strong enough to ensure that the album is an entertaining listen, especially at its budget price.
