AllMusic Review by William Ruhlmann

Even more than most of the entries in Time-Life's Big Bands series, the Bob Crosby number eschews a selection of the artist's hits in favor of a jazz-oriented compilation. None of Crosby's popular recordings are included, and in fact only five selections out of 21 have vocals, a somewhat odd representation for a band led by a singer. Nevertheless, this is a good place to sample the wares of such band members as Billy Butterfield, Yank Lawson, Matty Matlock, Bob Haggert and Ray Baudic, the last two on the innovative "Big Noise from Winnetka." But anyone thinking that a Bob Crosby compilation means "Whispers in the Dark" or "Day In, Day Out" should look elsewhere.
