This budget CD is a straight reissue of an early '60s LP, the title track of which was Jimmy Dean's biggest hit and one of the greatest saga songs that country music produced in response to the Sixties folk boom . The only other hit on the package is the recitation "To a Sleeping Beauty," an expression of a father's love for his daughter. The other songs are mainly covers of hits such as "Gotta Travel On," "Sixteen Tons" and "Smoke! Smoke! Smoke! (That Cigarette)," all of which are ably handled by Dean and benefit from Don Law's crisp production and uncluttered arrangements. These ten tracks are also included on Bear Family's anthology, Big Bad John, which is more than twice the length (and price) of this set.
