From dreamy trance to tribal rock, Craig Olson celebrates a positive expression of his pagan spirituality with this follow-up to Mud Bay, titled Beyond the Cedar Moon. Olson, composer of the album's original songs, performs with accompaniment by bassist Lee LaMarr and additional drumming and percussion from Daniel McCarty and Steve Hutton. It all interweaves into a rhythmic paean to life that falls pleasingly on the ears. "The Wheel" speaks of recognizing a kindred soul ("It seems that I've held your heart before"). The title song invokes the Cedar Tree for long life and wisdom, with melodic folk-rock. Olson also hails the moon with "See Her Shining." The common thread throughout is a valuing of the natural forces at work in the world. So, for mellow tributes from the pagan viewpoint, Craig Olson delivers enjoyable listening. Recommended for pagan parents, as it has some heartful songs for sharing with kids, particularly "Circle Song."
