Should an album be accountable to its title? If so, The Best Reggae Album in the World...Ever!, Pt. 2 has some explaining to do, even if it is part two. There is a lot here that technically isn't reggae at all. A good portion of this two-disc set is actually second-generation ska, or pop tunes with hijacked reggae rhythms. Jimmy Cliff's "Many Rivers to Cross" is included here, and while it is a wonderful and moving song, it isn't reggae at all, having more in common with the hymns sung at a Baptist church. The Police have a track, too, "Walking on the Moon," and while no one would deny that the Police utilized reggae rhythms to spice up things, you can't really call them a reggae band. Ditto with Blondie. What we really have here is an anthology put together according to someone's perception of reggae rather than by someone with a real understanding of it. Sure, you could put this on at a party and it would work fine. Just don't go walking in Kingston with it.
