AllMusic Review by

Madacy's Best of Soul 80s is a 12-track compilation that spans the entirety of the decade and bounces back and forth between ballads and more up-tempo dancefloor fillers. It's a rather random assortment of highlights, but few of the picks are obvious ones. While hardly anyone needs another source for Kool & the Gang's "Celebration" or Bobby Brown's "My Prerogative," there are plenty of selections that aren't so widespread. Klymaxx's "I Miss You," Smokey Robinson's "Being With You," and Vanessa Williams' "Dreaming" highlight the ballads, while Pebbles' "Mercedes Boy," Jody Watley's "Looking for a New Love," and the Brothers Johnson's "Stomp" represent the party-oriented side.
