AllMusic Review by

Best of Jazz Vocal Classics is a decent and eclectic collection of vocal jazz from the Warner and Atlantic vaults. There's Mel Tormé sounding more like an R&B singer, Ray Charles trying on a little light jazz à la the Nat King Cole Trio, Betty Carter blowing your mind with what she does best, Chris Connor from early on in her career, and Aretha Franklin fresh from her Columbia contract before she started blowing down doors as the Queen of Soul.
